Millions of South Africans rely on the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to make ends meet. If you've applied for the SRD grant, completing a Sassa status check will inform you about whether or not you will receive an SRD grant payment for April 2025.
To be eligible for the SRD grant, you must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or special permit holder. You cannot receive other government support like Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) benefits or NSFAS funding and must have a bank balance below R624.
How to Check Your Sassa Status

- Access the "Application Status" section.
- Enter your ID number and cellphone number.
- Verify your identity with an OTP.

What Your Sassa Status Means
- Pending: Your application is under review.
- Approved: You'll receive an SMS and can collect your grant at selected stores or have it deposited into your bank account.
- Declined: You can appeal the decision through the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).
Appealing a Declined Application
If your SRD grant application is rejected, you have the right to appeal. Separate appeals are required for each rejected month to the ITSAA. The process can take 60-90 days, and the ITSAA's decision is final.
