The University of South Africa (Unisa) has confirmed its NSFAS allowance payment plan for the first six months of 2025. Following this announcement, thousands of students are eager to know how much their NSFAS allowance payments will be for the academic year.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to eligible students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. This funding covers tuition and registration fees, along with several allowances for food, accommodation, and study materials.
How Much Are the 2025 NSFAS Allowances?
NSFAS-funded students at Unisa receive allowances based on their course load. These cover learning materials and personal care.
Learning Materials Allowance
This allowance is paid once-off at the start of the year. In 2025, eligible students receive R5 678. Students with disabilities receive a slightly higher amount of R6 240.
Personal Care Allowance
This monthly allowance is paid for 10 months, from February to November. Students receive R316 per month to help cover essential personal care needs.
NSFAS allowances are disbursed in 10 instalments across the academic year, meaning students receive payments from February until November.
How Will Unisa NSFAS Allowances Be Paid in 2025?
Unisa has confirmed that NSFAS allowances will be paid via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) directly into students’ bank accounts.
NSFAS allowances are paid by the institution via EFT into the student’s bank account.
This method of payment applies to all NSFAS-funded university students and is the standard process across public universities in South Africa.
