The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), provides temporary financial support to unemployed South African citizens aged between 18 and 59 years.
To qualify for the SRD grant, applicants must be unemployed, between 18 and 59 years old, and not receiving any other form of government financial assistance, such as NSFAS bursaries, UIF benefits, or other Sassa grants.
Sassa SRD Grant Payment Value For April 2025
The SRD Grant was last increased by R20 in April 2024, bringing the total value to R370. Beneficiaries will therefore receive R370 for the month of April 2025.
SRD grant payments are typically processed during the last week of the month, excluding weekends and public holidays, once Sassa completes all necessary verification checks.
How To Do A Sassa Status Check For R370 Grant Payment Date
To check your Sassa status, visit the SRD status check section on the official Sassa website. Enter your ID number and the cellphone number you used when applying for the grant.
After submitting your details, you'll receive a one-time PIN (OTP) for verification. Once entered, you'll be able to view your SRD grant payment status, including the date your grant will be paid.
How Can I Collect My SRD Grant?
You have two convenient options for collecting your SRD grant:
- Direct Bank Deposit: Have your grant paid directly into your bank account. This is usually the fastest method. However, please allow 2–3 business days for the funds to reflect.
- Supermarket Pickup: Collect your grant in cash at participating supermarkets such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave, OKAY, or Spar.
Grant recipients are advised to perform a status check to confirm whether they’ve been approved for payment. The Sassa status check will also provide the exact payment date.
Who Qualifies For The SRD Grant
Only approved applicants will receive payments. Sassa conducts thorough verification checks to confirm eligibility. These checks include:
- ID verification: The Department of Home Affairs verifies your residency and identity status.
- Financial assessment: Your ID is cross-referenced with SARS, UIF, and NSFAS databases to confirm you’re not receiving other government assistance.
- Fraud risk scoring: Both your ID number and mobile number are evaluated to prevent fraud.
Government has allocated funding for the Social Relief of Distress grant until March 2025.
