The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened 2024 bursary applications. For the first time, students will be able to apply for comprehensive funding from NSFAS using their new mobile application.

NSFAS is urging students to apply on their official mobile application. This comes after several applications were registered on Android and Apple stores purporting to be the government bursary scheme.

The financial aid scheme says these websites have been set up by unscrupulous individuals in an attempt to steal personal information from unsuspecting students.

NSFAS has discovered several bogus mobile apps operating online under the NSFAS’ name.

NSFAS says their mobile app has not yet been launched and students should not submit applications on any of these fake mobile applications.

Please note that all these ARE FAKE and being used by criminals to steal personal details. NSFAS HAS NOT launched its mobile app yet. Below is a list of some of these apps.

In the meantime, students can submit their 2024 NSFAS application on the myNSFAS website. However, students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as NSFAS 2024 bursary applications will close on 31 January 2023.

How to Submit an NSFAS Application in 2024

  1. Create a myNSFAS account.
  2. Update personal information by clicking on the 'Apply' tab.
  3. Upload application supporting documents.
  4. Apply to NSFAS.

Who Qualifies for NSFAS

To qualify, applicants must be South African, enrolled in an approved course at a public university or TVET college, and not exceed the household income threshold. A student's household income must not exceed R350,000 or R600,000 for disabled students.

How to Check Your NSFAS Status

After submitting a 2024 NSFAS bursary application, students will need to keep up with their NSFAS status. An NSFAS status will indicate whether their application was successful or not.

If your 2024 NSFAS funding application was unsuccessful, you can submit an appeal application. Your NSFAS will indicate why your application was rejected. Knowing why your application is rejected informs you which documents you will need to submit as part of your appeal application.
