Exam season is well underway for primary and high school students, and UCT Vice-Chancellor Mamokgethi Phakeng has been journeying to high schools in attempts to boost student morale as they approach the last leg of the examination period.

Most recently, on the 22nd of November, she paid a visit to Joe Slovo Engineering High School, where UCT engineering graduate, Malibongwe Manono, attended High School. The main aim for the visit was to motivate students in this important, yet trying period in their High School careers.

It was here that the VC also launched a shirt with the words "FUTURE UCT GRADUATE" to be distributed to all the Grade 9 students at the school. With regards to the wording on the shirt, the VC had the following to say:

"The t-shirt says graduate & not student because the learners should dream not only of coming to study at UCT but they should dream of becoming graduates. Each Grade 9 learner got the t-shirt to remind them of what they can achieve"
