The beginning of the academic year for University of Cape Town (UCT) students saw protests taking place on behalf of those students who were unable to re-register at the beginning of the year.

Inability to register came with UCT's annual fee block policy, which blocks students with an outstanding fee debt of over R1 000 from re-registering. Along with these protests came a student relief programme that was created in the name of the Students' Representative Council slogan during the protest against fee blocks: #NoStudentLeftBehind.

The drive was setup up to issue food relief for students, and was said to have operated from Forest Hill UCT Residence in Mowbray. This was a collaborative effort struck by the UCT SRC, the UCT Muslim Students' Association (MSA) and the Giving Feeding Foundation Team.

Recent updates suggest that since the protests began, there have since been multiple conversations between the SRC and the Vice-Chancellor's desk and a few resolutions have been made, resulting in the removal of current fee blocks to allow for students to re-register.
