Cape Town School Ranked Third In World’s Best School

Learners and teaching staff at the Pinelands North Primary School celebrated being the third best school in the World's Best School in the category: Overcoming Adversity.

The school’s Principal, Anne Morton has witnessed and played a role in the school's transformation over the years, since assuming this role in 1997.

When Apartheid came to an end, new legislations were birthed to repeal all forms of discriminatory education. It is for this reason that the school has since embraced diversity.

It is said that the school’s first transgender learner is estimated to be 20 years old, and Morton has shared that the teaching staff had been prepared before the learner being admitted to the school. Currently, the number of learners who are transgender and non-binary has since grown.

This school has broken the standard definition of diversity by race only, but it also continues to embrace the diversity of gender, language, culture, and beyond.

It is for this reason that the Western Cape’s Premier, Alan Winde, has also urged the rest of the country to unite & support the school by voting for it, as this school is left with approximately six days before the voting lines close on the World’s Best School’s website.
