How do I become a Nurse?

Prospective applicants are required to have completed their National Senior Certificate or must possess an equivalent qualification at NQF level 4 in order to access these higher education training programmes.

There is also an opportunity for individuals who already have practical experience in the nursing field to obtain a qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

An application must be submitted according to the RPL policy of the Nursing Education Institution for individual assessment. The credits received from this assessment can be used to access qualification or credit bearing exemptions.

You can complete your training at a registered institution.

Once completing the degree, students need to register with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). The SANC approves all the courses of institutions and will not register any student without a formal qualification from an institution that is not recognised.
