What is the Second Chance Matric Programme?

The Second Chance Matric Programme is everything you need to rewrite you matric exams. Rewriting matric can be lonely and difficult but, there are many Second Chance Programmes to assist you with your studies.

If you are unsatisfied with your matric result or you wish to redo you matric year, you now have easy access to do so with the Second Chance Matric Programme.

South Africa gives everyone a second chance to rewrite their matric exams, whether you have failed your matric year or wish to improve you results. 

To rewrite you either choose to do it on your own or join a institution that offers second chance programmes.

Step one is to contact the Department of Basic Education or the institution of choice and register for the rewrite.

All you need to rewrite you matric is:

  • Completed registration form
  • A certified copy of your ID document or birth certificate or passport (foreign candidates)
  • A copy of your previous highest qualification
  • If you have you entered and wrote any other Grade 12 or equivalent examination before you will need to supply the examination numbers for those exams.

You will then receive dates and locations of when your exams with take place and all you have to do is prepare and study.

If you decide not to join an institution and do it on your own, it can be very isolated as you have no one to assist you and there is no active learning taking place. 

It is hard to find accessible resources like textbooks and practice exercises to help you prepare, but luckily today we have online resources like Siyavula to assist us.

With a good amount of research you will find many free and accessible online programmes to assist you with your rewrite.
