How Students Can Implement Mindfulness Into Their Lives

It is so easy to allow life’s circumstances to consume every part of our lives. As a student, it is important to create a balance. Through mindfulness, it allows you to acknowledge and accept your thoughts and emotions. The purpose of mindfulness is to pay attention to what is happening around you, both internally and externally, in the present moment.

Your main focus should be on your thoughts and emotions about what is currently happening and how you are feeling at that very moment.

How to practice mindfulness in your everyday life?

There are many different techniques that students can use to implement mindfulness in their everyday life. What works for one may not necessarily work for another. Try and find a technique that works best for you and creates a balance for your overall well-being. 

Meditation - Quiet time is a very important element that can be implemented into your life. Spending at least 10 to 15 minutes a day in complete silence and focusing on your breathing will allow your thoughts to drift by without judgment as you let go of them. 

Physical well-being - It is important to take note of what your body is telling you. Taking note of your physical sensations that you are feeling allows you to acknowledge them and let the thoughts pass. Allow your emotions to be present, become aware of each emotion you are experiencing, and then let them be.

Using positive words of affirmations - Try and start your morning by using a daily mantra or positive affirmations. This sets the tone as to how your day will be when you are filling your mind with positive things. This will also lead to increasing your self-confidence by believing that you are able to achieve anything when you decide to put your mind to it. 

Practice mindfulness while you wait - We live in a fast-paced world where our lives automatically become fast-paced too. Being impatient is one of the biggest frustrations to many and we are not able to achieve mindfulness when we are not patient. When you are patient or waiting it is an opportunity for you to practice mindfulness. 

Pick a cue to remind you to be mindful - Choose a cue that you come across on a regular basis to shift your brain into a mindful mode. This can be anything from drinking coffee in the morning, standing outside for fresh air, jogging, or looking at yourself in the bathroom mirror. This will serve as a reminder to practice mindfulness and remember to always start your day on a positive note. 

It’s not always easy to start the process of mindfulness. Therefore, the best way to be mindful is to cultivate and practice it to become a part of your everyday life.
