NSFAS applications are officially open so start applying so that you can be financed for the first step to a great future. Part of applying is that you have to submitdocuments to NSFAS so you might ask yourself, which documents then? Well, here 's the answer.
For your application to be funded by NSFAS to go through, you will need to submit documents. Be sure to check whether you have submitted them all and correcetly along with the correct details and you shoud be well on your way to benefitting from this bursary.
NSFAS applications opened on 3 August 2020 and will close on 30 November 2020. The decision came to open applications early so that students have a bigger period of time to apply in these strange and unusual times.
Here's the documents you need to submit when applying.
- Copy of your ID
- Must have consent from parent(s), guardian or spouse to submit their personal information for validation and verification. Once you accept the application terms and conditions, you confirm that you have received consent from all relevant parties.
If the applicant is dependent on their parents/guardian/spoude, they must provide:
- ID copies of parent(s), guardian or spouse
- Proof of income (payslip or appointment letter) of parent(s), guardian or spouse where applicable
If the applicant is self-sufficient, they must provide:
- Proof of income (payslip or appointment letter)
- 1 year's IRP5 form
If the applicant has a disability, they must provide:
- A completed and signed Disability Annexure A (if their information is not pre-populated on the online application form)
If the applicants is recognised as a Vulnerable Child, they must provide:
- A completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration
- A completed and signed Consent Form
Other documents required, if applicable:
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce decree
If you are a SASSA recipient then no proof of income is required.
Certified documents are not a requirement due to COVID-19 restrictions.

To be eligible for NSFAS Bursary funding applicant must be a South African citizen; Come from a family with a combined annual household income of not more than R350 000 per annum; For students with a disability, the combined annual household income of not more than R600 000 per annum.
