P&G South Africa continues its mission to create opportunities and spaces for young leaders and under-represented voices to collaborate for change. On 30 May, P&G hosted young leaders from selected schools in Soweto to participate in the Always Keeping Girls in School Program panel. This panel focused on discussing solutions to menstrual education and combating period poverty.

The launch of the #BloodSister Network aims to ensure that young girls are supported and can continue their schooling without being absent due to period poverty. In partnership with dancer and Brand Ambassador Bontle Modiselle, the #BloodSister Network has transcended borders, making waves from Rwanda to Central Park, NY, as part of the Global Citizen initiative.

As 2024 marks the 16th year of P&G’s commitment to combating period poverty, the launch of the #BloodSister Network in celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day aims to normalise periods and make menstruation an accepted part of life by 2030. With the introduction of the #BloodSister Network launch on the 30th of May, we are empowering schools and communities to nominate their #BloodSisters – young leaders who will champion menstrual equity and education.

Reflecting on her journey, Bontle Modiselle shared, "Using my art to champion this cause on a global stage has been incredibly rewarding. It's vital to normalize periods and empower young girls to embrace their natural journey without shame."

Alicia Eggington, Vice President and General Manager of P&G South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia, expressed, "We believe in doubling our efforts to reach more girls in just one year. Through impactful partnerships, we can empower future generations and break the barriers of period poverty."

Furthermore, P&G extends its commitment by donating R100,000 among five deserving girls, assisting them in their journey into higher education. This initiative reflects P&G's dedication to keeping girls in school and investing in their futures.

This Youth Month let us stand together as #BloodSisters, ensuring that no girl is left behind because of her period. Let us ensure our young girls have the same opportunities and can embrace the socioeconomic gains of their democracy.

For every Always product purchased, we will donate a pack of sanitary pads to the Always Keeping Girls in School initiative. Together, let us empower girls through education and menstrual health.
