What Is The Difference Between Testing & Screening For COVID-19?

Answer:

Often there is confusion around the difference between testing and screening for the Coronavirus.

Here is the difference:

  • Testing - A biological sample is collected from a suspected patient, like a nasal swab or a blood sample. Which is then tested in a laboratory for the virus or its antibodies.
  • Screening - It is a way of determining whether or not the person is at risk of contracting the virus. Screening may include answering questions about one's recent health and activities. In some cases, like at the airport, screening is done through temperature scanners to identify symptoms such as fever.
