The DStv Delicious International Food and Music Festival is finally back after a two-year hiatus and South Africans are in for a treat. The organizers of the festival made a big announcement on Wednesday that Nigerian superstar, Burna Boy, and R&B hitmaker Babyface will be the headliners.
Hosting the prestigious two-day festival, will be poet Lebo Mashile at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit over the Heritage Day weekend.
Burna Boy alongside kwaito legends, Mdu Masilela, Kabelo Mabalane, Thebe Author Mufokate, Trompies, and Dino Bravo as well as Stereo MCs will kick off the main stage on Saturday, September 24.
Major League DJs will be on the decks on the main stage joined by G-Force, Lerato Kganyago, Lamiez Holworthy, DJ Zinhle, and Soul Sista Zane.
Gracing the main stage on Sunday, September 25, will be 12-time Grammy winner Babyface while Digable Planets, consisting of rappers Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, Mariana “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira, and Craig “Doodlebug” Irving, will also join in on the fun.
Oskido, Vinny, Christos, DJ Ganyani, and DJ Fresh complete the Sunday line-up
Co-Founder of DStv Delicious, Tom Pearson-Adams, says booking big international acts takes time, and patience and that there are many layers to the process.
“There are a couple of artists, I won’t mention them now because I think we will be able to bring them next year, but we have been trying to book two acts for the last eight years,” said Adams.
Staying with wonderful, powerful women, on Sunday the late, great Makeba will be honored when the next generation of women torch-bearers for South Africa’s musical heritage, the phenomenal Simphiwe, Msaki and Miriam’s granddaughter, Zenzi Makeba Lee will pay tribute to Mama Afrika – the ultimate African music icon.
The DStv Delicious early bird tickets are available at a special rate for the month of July, at the discounted price of R690 for a general access day pass and R1 950 for a Delicious Lounge Day Pass.
