Teachers Assistants in the Free State have had their prayers answered now that their contracts have been extended. As part of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme, 300 000 youth across South Africa were hired to be school assistants.

If you participated in the School Assistants programme, Youth Capital wants to hear from you. Your voice and opinions are important and can help those who design and implement these programmes make them more relevant.

Remember the 300 000 school assistants who were hired? Sadly, their contracts will soon come to an end. School staff are now worried about what will happen without these assistants there to help them with many hoping for contracts to be renewed.

Many parents are coming forward and saying that they are having issues with school placements due to needing to pay a registration fee. The department has now responded to this issue.

Following multiple reports of the Department missing out on payments to General and Education Assistants, the Department of Basic Education has now responded. The hiring of school assistants forms part of the Basic Education Employment Initiative.

The Covid-19 pandemic has now lead to the Department of Basic Education anticipating that there will be many dropouts in schools. They have also found that online learning was not as effective.
