It's application season, as many tertiary institutions have opened their applications for the 2026 academic year. If you're interested in studying nursing, the Western Cape College of Nursing is opening its application period.

A qualification in Nursing will offer you endless possibilities from working in the local health sector at hospitals, clinics or non-governmental organisations to taking up opportunities abroad. 

If you're passionate about helping others and interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, nursing may be the perfect fit for you.

Applications opened on the 5th May 2025 to study in 2026.

The application fee is a non-refundable R250. Documents required are:

  • Identity Document
  • Marriage Certificate (If applicable)
  • Matric Certificate (No statement allowed)
  • Qualififed Nurse should submit a SANC Annual Practicing Certificate.

The Western Cape College of Nursing (WCCN) has opened its application period for various Nursing qualifications. These include:

  • Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery
  • Diploma in General Nursing
  • Higher Certificate in Nursing
  • Advanced Diploma in Midwifery

How To Apply To The Western Cape College of Nursing Available Courses 

One Year Higher Certificate in Nursing (R169)

Prospective Candidates need to comply with the following Minimum Admission Requirements; for matriculants from 2008, the Compulsory Subjects and minimum rating scale are as follows:

  • First Additional language: English code 3
  • Home Language code 3
  • Mathematics code 2 or
  • Mathematical Literacy code 3
  • Life Science code 3
  • Or Physical Science code 2
  • Minimum total score of 24

Please note that the results of only six subjects are used to calculate the APS, excluding Life Orientation. 

Bachelor of Nursing & Midwifery (R174)

Prospective Candidates need to comply with the Minimum Admission Requirements. Compulsory Subjects and minimum rating scale are as follows:

  • First Additional Language (English): code 4
  • Home Language: code 4
  • Mathematics: code 4 or Mathematical Literacy: code 5
  • Life Science: code 4 or Physical Science: code 4
  • Minimum total APS score of 27
  • Minimum matriculation National Senior Certificate with Bachelor endorsement.

Diploma in Nursing (R171)

Prospective Candidates need to comply with the Minimum Admission Requirements. Compulsory Subjects and minimum rating scale are as follows: 

  • First Additional Language (English): code 4
  • Home Language: code 4
  • Mathematics: code 3 or Mathematical Literacy: code 4
  • Life Science: code 4
  • Minimum total APS score of 24

Please note that the results of only six subjects are used to calculate the APS score, excluding Life Orientation.
