The University of the Free State (UFS) offers private accommodation to its students and students have been urged to apply for this accommodation on the UFS Self Service site.
After experiencing some issues on the system used for the private accommodation application process they extended the closing date of these applications from the 10 September to 17 September 2021.
UFS provides a variety of accommodations both on and off campus.
The on campus residences are single sex and cater for senior and junior students in single or double rooms with shared bathrooms. Senior students may also qualify for the apartments which are situated on campus.
The off campus private accommodation consists of apartments or houses which are shared by a group of students.
Students can find information regarding accredited, provisionally accredited and verified landlords through the Housing an Residence Affairs.
Students can search for their accommodation on the UFS Self Service site and the “Search Results” will show a list available for accommodations according to your search criteria. You can select your accommodation from the list.
If your chosen accommodation is not yet verified, provisionally accredited or accredited then you may still apply for the private accommodation allowance. However you are requested to upload the following documents:
- Proof of home address (not older than 3 months)
- The signed lease agreement, (including the certified copy of the student and landlord’s Identity Documents),
- the completed application from the landlord for Accreditation/ verification
- If the application is not available, an affidavit by the Landlord declaring:
- The missing documents, i.e. municipal accounts, PTO, title deed, zoning, approved building plan, etc.,
- Contact detail of the Landlord,
- Confirming the address
- Monthly rental and total capacity,
- Declare the information supplied as true and correct
- Statement indemnifying the UFS against any legal claims and or financial losses
- Accepting the process of Verification by the UFS
- Please note: that if the completed application is not available, the Landlord MUST attached list of students residing at the accommodation.
Housing and Residence Affairs will confirm the information provided on the affidavit and will then inform Financial Aid to process the application once done.
UFS has stated that only those students whose private accommodation applications have been approved will receive allowance payments.
Students are urged to submit their applications as soon as possible.
