Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) was established by the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande. The university aims to provide a comprehensive range of qualifications across a broad range of Health Sciences fields.

Registration is run by a multi-disciplinary Registration Task team of the university that is put together by the Office of the Registrar. The Task Team consists of representatives from the five Schools, the finance department, residences, safety and security, Institutional Support Department, ICT, and IPD.

The university has separate registration processes for first-time entering students and returning students. Here is how the following students may register:

First-Time Entering Students

Students may register online using the self-help portal, iEnabler, or make use of the on-campus registration facilities. Students are expected to use their own devices, such as cellphones, tablets, or laptops, to register.

A registration fee will need to be paid before they can successfully register at the university. Those who are self-funded will need to pay the registration fee beforehand, whereas those who are funded by a bursary will need to provide proof of funding in order to register.

Those who experience problems while registering may call one of the following numbers: 012 521 4204/ 4319/ 4644/ 5057, during office hours. Students may also visit the university Sports Complex during office hours if they experience any difficulties registering.

International students will only be allowed to register once they have been cleared by the International Office. Students may contact the International Office at 012 521 5834 or [email protected]

When registering, international students will need to submit certified copies of the following documents:

  • Valid passport
  • Valid study permit endorsed specifically for SMU.
  • Medical aid cover that is registered and administered in South Africa during their studies at SMU.

Returning Students
