Walter Sisulu University, also known as WSU, has opened their WSU online applications for the 2025 academic year. WSU accepts online applications only, providing a free service with no payment required. There may be some courses that are open for the second semester of 2024.

Walter Sisulu University (WSU) is a South African university situated in the Eastern Cape, with four campuses. The university focuses on urban renewal and rural development, offering a quality academic, moral, cultural, and technological learner-centred education.

Walter Sisulu University is one of the South African universities which offers many undergraduate and postgraduate courses that are highly sought after not only in the Eastern Cape, but the rest of South Africa. It is open now for WSU online applications for 2024 and 2025. 

Walter Sisulu University Faculties

Individuals who want to study at WSU can choose from more than 170 Academic Programmes offered at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. These courses are offered within the institution's 7 faculties. 

  • Engineering, Built Environment And Information Technology.
  • Management and Public Administration Sciences.
  • Economic and Financial Sciences.
  • Law, Humanities And Social Sciences.
  • Medicine And Health Sciences.
  • Natural Sciences.

To submit your online application to study at Walter Sisulu University WSU, applicants need to follow all the steps:

Step 2: Fill in personal details, including address information.

Step 3: Select the desired undergraduate or postgraduate program. Take note of the admission minimum requirements.

Step 4: Submit the necessary documents

Individuals submitting online applications for admission to the Walter Sisulu University must submit the necessary documents, depending on the applicant's category:

The university considers various post-matric certificates for admission purposes.

WSU Online Application 2024

1. The following certificates are accepted:

  • The “Old Senior” certificate
  • The National Senior Certificate “NSC”
  • National Certificate Vocational “NCV”
  • N6 certificate
  • Current grade 12 learners must upload grade 11 final results and first quarter or mid-year results if available.
  • Post-matric candidates must upload a matric or equivalent certificate, academic record, copy of ID or passport.

2. Some departments may consider mature age exemption for admission into some programmes. For more information you may enquire from the Admissions Office at [email protected]. You can also view the fee payment required.

Transfer students

Students transferring from another tertiary institution must submit the following documents:

  • Matric Certificate
  • Post-matric certificate;
  • Identity document;
  • Official academic report;
  • Conduct certificate

International applicants

International applicants need to first apply to Universities South Africa (Usaf) for evaluation of school results or other degree/diploma certificates.

When they receive  the results from Usaf they may commence with the application process and upload the results and the copy of your passport.

Step 5: Double-check all the information provided and ensure that the required documents are attached.

Step 6: Submit your WSU application. 

After successfully completing the application, all communication will be sent to the email address provided

How To Track WSU Online Application Status

Once you have applied to the South African university, you should receive a response from them a couple of days after the application closing date. However, if you still did not receive feedback from the university, you may track your application by following these steps:

  2. Enter Reference Number / ID Number and then click the Search button

Application Dates

When making your WSU online application, don't forget about the relevant closing application dates.

Closing dates for Health Science Programmes: 30 September

All other programmes closing dates: 31 October

The application fee at WSU is Free. Walter Sisulu University only accepts online applications and It is considered a free service where no payments such as an application fee are required. 

Is WSU a university of technology?

WSU isn't explicitly a university of technology. However, Walter Sisulu University is one of six comprehensive universities which offer academic and technological qualifications. 

Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Tshwane University of Technology and Central University of Technology are examples of a university of technology in South Africa. If you're looking at universities in South Africa, universities such as North West University and Stellenbosch University are not examples of a university of technology.

Be sure to submit your application before closing application dates, including university of technology application dates. Even if you didn't complete your National Senior Certificate yet, you should apply for academic qualifications at tertiary institutions as soon as you can.
