CPUT Is Last Western Cape University To Start Online Learning

Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is the last University in Western Cape to start online learning. This comes as all Universities have had an official move to a remote learning approach as of 1 June.

Cape Peninsula University of Technology will be the last University in the Western Cape to commence with a remote learning programme as a means to complete the 2020 academic year.

CPUT stated, "This week simply signals the start of a differentiated multi-modal approach to learning, which may take the form of e-learning, mass delivery of learning materials in hard copy or memory stick, and other creative ways of completing the 2020 academic year."

The University will be delivering learning materials to students so that these students have access to resources that will enable them to take part in the digital learning programme.

Students have complained about the University's lack of communication and action to continue the academic programme as other Universities had. CPUT has said that they did not want to rush with plans to continue the academic programme and wanted to have students' health and safety in mind.

CPUT students will be given extra time to catch up with the academic programme if they do not have access to resources which are needed to complete the academic year under these unique conditions.

The institution is currently assessing which students will fall under the 33% who will return to campuses in the coming weeks.

In addition to commencing with remote learning along with all other South African universities, CPUT will also be appointing a senior manager to oversee operational readiness in the Vice-Chancellor's office.

When students return to campuses, they will be screened and given Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at entrances and social distancing protocols will be followed.

CPUT is looking to provide students with devices, should they need it. To apply for devices, students should go to:
