E-commerce businesses thrived as the pandemic required digitalised tools to keep up and generate profits. When it comes to the education sector, experts believe that the digital divide further widened, but the education Minister has introduced technical subjects to equip learners with skills relevant to digital spaces.

Independent Examinations Board celebrated the upward victory of its learners having achieved a pass rate of 98.39%.

Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga also announced that the overall pass rate of the National Senior Certificate matriculants is 76.4%.

These learners will be competing for space at institutions of higher learning.

In a Newzroom Afrika live interview, a former Statistician-General, Dr. Pali Lehohla emphasized that basic education should be made mandatory, however, learners must also acquire a skill in the process..

Policymakers also need to take note of statistics so that they have a clear understanding of the lived reality, so that in turn, it informs the design of our education systems.

The Education Minister has managed to structure the curriculum in such a way that it provides all kinds of technical education.

All of this is part of the solution of opening young minds.
