It is vital that students unwind after a long stressful day on campus because stress causes your body to release hormones that increase your blood pressure and raise your heart rate.
When you unwind, your body will relax and the benefits of relaxation include lower blood pressure, improved mood and improved immune health.
Here are a few ways you can unwind:
Relaxing Bath
Taking a bath while listening to your favourite playlist can help your body relax and put you generally in a good mood. Warm water will help loosen up your muscles and when combined with essential oils and bath salts, this can be a very relaxing experience.
Exercise
Some people find exercise relaxing as not only does exercise relieve stress, but it also releases some chemicals that make you feel good and happy. It can be yoga, Pilates, Zumba, the gym, aerobics, swimming, running, handball, volleyball or any other type of physical activity you enjoy.
Go for a walk
Going for walk and just taking in the surrounding area, breathing in the fresh air while taking a leisurely stroll is a great way to unwind and get away from the daily struggles of being on campus.
Read a Book
It’s good to take a rest from social media, phones, TV and Tablets. Reading a book while your phone is switched off can be really enjoyable if you love reading as there will be no distractions.
Watch a Movie
Immerse yourself in a movie as it can reduce anxiety and stress levels. Doesn't matter what type of movie genre you are into, the fact that you enjoy that genre will cause your brain to release cortisol and dopamine in the brain. This will put you in a better mood.
Visit your friends
When you feel like you’re too anxious and preoccupied, all you need is a get-together with friends. Going out and living your best life is sometimes all you need to basically get away from the campus life's trials and tribulations.
As you may have noticed there are many ways you can unwind after a long day on campus, but the endgame is to find something that you enjoy doing and can easily reduce stress and anxiety and promote relaxation.
This could be anything from drinking a cup of coffee, baking or just sleeping, as everyone is different and everyone has their own way of unwinding.
