How Not To Become A College Drop Out

There are 5 major reasons students don't finish their studies. Here are some tips to help you survive the challenges students face at varsity.

“Unexpected family problems can arise.” This can impact the financial stability of the home. Or incidents such as death or divorce can heighten stress levels in students who are already strained by the demands of college life. Students who feel unable to balance their responsibilities might be tempted to opt out of their studies.

Survivor Tip: Share your burdens with a friend, counsellor or person you trust. Talking to someone can help you get perspective about your problems and how to solve them.

New surroundings

Living on campus 24/7 is a huge transition from attending school for eight hours a day. The practical adjustment of sharing personal space with strangers, participating in college life and being away from home can be overwhelming.

This scenario may not cause students to drop out but it can add to the pressure they feel in their first year.

Survivor Tip: Give yourself time to adjust to your new surroundings. Speak to older students and get advice on how to better manage your study schedule and personal time.

There are many challenges and bumps along the journey but learning to ask for help from people who have walked the road before you can make the difference on your path.
