Becoming a good interior designer requires knowledge in the seven elements of interior design. These elements include: Space, Lines, Form/Shape, Pattern, Light, Colour and Texture.
In South Africa, there are a few tertiary institutions where such skills can be studied and harnessed. Here, we focus on two private institutions in particular. To start with, the Independent Institute of Education (IIE)- Vega School, of which there are a number of branches throughout the country, offers more than adequate courses in Interior Design.
The institution offers a 3-year study programme for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design, and a 1-year study programme to earn a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Interior Design.
Alternatively, there is the Boston House College (BHC) School of Design, which offers a more specific focus in Interior design. The BHC School of Design is a private college that can be found in Woodstock, Cape Town.
The institution offers a specialised focus in Interior Design and Interior Decorating, offering both a 3-year Diploma in Interior Design and a 1-year Higher Certificate in Interior Decorating with other skill development programmes, short courses and so on.
These are just two of the private institutions in the country of South Africa that cater to the prospective student’s aim towards being able to take an interior space and amplify its function, safety and aesthetic beauty and design.
