Do you want to be be a part of South Africa's premier journalism programme in 2021? Apply now to the Career Entry Honours Programme in Journalism and Media Wits has on offer. Here, there are industry-sponsored bursaries & internships available to qualifying students.

Applications close on 30 September 2020.

If you want to pursue a career in journalism or want to use it in the job you choose, you should be a part of this Wits Honours Programme. All that's required is that you are a graduate, and this can be in any field, and you must at least have graduated with an average of at least 65% in your final year.

Wits says they encourage applicants whose first degrees are in a range of areas, including the humanities, commerce, arts, science and law to apply.

If you already have more than three years’ working experience in journalism, then please refer to the Mid-Career Honours.

This programme only accepts 24 students based on their academic record, writing skills and commitment to the profession of journalism. So if you think you want to join, better hurry and apply. Students who worked in media, whether that be on or off campus, will be favoured.

If your application peaks Wits' interest, you will then head to the next step which is a writing test and then an interview.

This programme is for a period of one year and is full-time.

Given the workload of this course, it is impossible for students to work part-time or to take additional courses. This degree is made up of five courses which will prepare you for the journalism world. There are four compulsory courses and the fifth, students will need to choose between television, radio or photography.

Students will also become involved with producing media content hands-on and they are required to be available to work in the mid-year study break and to complete their In-Depth Reporting Project during November.

Students who form a part of this programme will be involved in a weekly campus newspaper which is online, Wits Vuvuzela.
