Mauritius Scholarship

The Department of Higher Education and Training is responsible for the nomination of South Africans for this scholarship. The below information is for South African applicants only. 

Application Process for South African Scholarship Applicants

STAGE ONE:  Submit an application for admission to identified, eligible Mauritian institution (an application fee may be required and should be paid by the applicant).

STAGE TWO:  Complete the DHET application form, available to download here email it to [email protected]
no later than 31 January 2020 for the March 2020 intake and on 25 March 2020 for the August 2020 intake, together with certified copies of:

  -   your highest qualification certificate;
  -   all post-school academic transcripts (if applicable);
  -   passport
  -   All postgraduate (Master's and PhD) applications must attach a 1-2 page research plan,
      including research aims and objectives, methodology and social relevance of the proposed

All documents submitted must be clear and in PDF format (no photographs of documents will be accepted).

STAGE THREE:  Applications that meet the minimum eligibility criteria only will be submitted for review and may be requested to attend an interview.

STAGE FOUR:  ONLY shortlisted applicants will be requested to submit the following additional documents by email to [email protected]

  -   Completed Mauritius-Africa Scholarship application form, available to download here.
  -   A medical certificate completed and stamped by a Registered Medical Practitioner in Section
      6 of the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship application form
  -   Certified copy of birth certificate;
  -   Copy of letter of conditional offer or proof of application by a public higher education
      institution in Mauritius OR copy of acknowledgement notice from the HEI

Please only submit this form and supporting documents to the DHET if requested to do so.

For the March intake, shortlisted applicants will be informed by 8 February 2020 and must submit all documents by no later than 15 February 2020.

For the August intake, shortlisted applicants will be informed by 5 April 2020 and must submit all documents by no later than 9 April 2020.

STAGE FIVE:  Nominated applicants will be reviewed by the Mauritian Government and a final decision will
be taken by them.

Please note that this scholarship is not offered by the Department of Higher Education and Training. Applicants are required to undertake their own research into programmes and institutions and are responsible for ensuring that the qualifications will be recognised in South Africa. If there are any discrepancies in the details provided regarding the scholarship, the information given by the sponsor supersedes the details provided above. No additional financial support will be provided by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
