National Youth Service Programme NYS

The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development through it's Expanded Public Works Programme is recruiting 2500 unemployed youth participants in Gauteng Province for the 2025/27 financial years to be placed in the National Youth Service Programme (NYS).

The NYS intake will include 60% females, 40% males, 2% persons with disabilities, and 100% historically disadvantaged individuals.

Requirements

  • Youth between 18 to 33 years (participants must be below the age of 35 for the duration of the two-year contract).
  • Should have passed Grade 11 or above and hold the relevant qualifications.
  • Should have a valid South African Identity Document
  • Should be available for the duration of the programme and prepared to sign a contract.
  • This programme is recruiting youth which reside in the 5 corridors (regions) of Gauteng Province (City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane, City of Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng and Westrand Districts).
  • Should have no criminal record.
  • Applicants will go through criminal record vetting before being placed.
  • Applicants should not be Directors or partners of any Registered Companies (CSD).
  • Should reside near project sites.

The selection criteria will include all the priorities of Government in the promotion of a viable successful youth cohort.

The Department reserves the right to terminate a Participant at any point within the contract period.

Where information supplied is found to be fraudulent- the Department will initiate and follow Labour Relations processes.

The Following NYS Work Experience Opportunities are Available

Technical Trade Qualification Positions: Ref # 2025/01

Electrical, solar installation and maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, boiler assistant, fitting and turning, mechanical, building, aircon and refrigeration, welding, handy man and painting

Administration Qualification Positions: Ref # 2025/02

Data capturing, finance, human resource management, procurement, asset management, pharmacy assistants, IT, OHS, development studies, social work, psychology, auditing, legal secretary, admin, receptionist, secretariat, communications, photography, videography, graphic design, animation, events management and media relations.

General Workers: Ref# 2025/03

Cleaning, gardening, landscaping, queue marshal, porters, laundry and food service oid

NB Successful candidates will receive a stipend of R3 500 per month over a fixed period of 24 months. Contracts will not be extended beyond the 24-month fixed period.

Please quote the relevant reference number and the specific skills development area which the applicant is applying for and include:

  • Comprehensive CV.
  • Certified copies of qualification/s and Identity Document not older than six months.

Candidates who have previously participated in the NYS programme will not be considered. If you do not hear from us within three months of the closing date, please consider your application as unsuccessful.
