The Australian Government, through Australia Awards-Africa offers fully-funded opportunities for mid-career professionals to study towards a Master's degree in Australia.

Priority sectors include:

  • Agriculture
  • Environment
  • Extractives
  • Gender Studies
  • Health
  • Human Rights
  • Public Policy (especially Infrastructure and Economic policy as well as Trade Policy)
  • Security Studies

Applicants must:

  • be a citizen of South Africa or other eligible country;
  • have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
  • be early- to mid-level official from a key government agency or a professional working in the private sector or civil society sector in one of the listed priority fields of study;
  • be a professional who wishes to undertake the scholarship in Australia in one of the listed priority fields of study. A Master's of Business Administration is not permitted;
  • have at least three-years' relevant post-graduate work experience;
  • demonstrate a clear vision of how the knowledge gained through the scholarship will be used to improve policy, practice or education in the proposed field of study;
  • be at least 25 years and not older than 52 years at the date of application;
  • have satisfactory English proficiency to enable full participation in a training course delivered in English;
  • satisfy all requirements of the Australian Government for the appropriate student visa (subclass 500).
  • Public sector applicants are required to obtain endorsement from their employer.
