Private Colleges in South Africa Compared to TVET Colleges

The private colleges in South Africa are different to TVET Colleges.  There are 50 TVET Colleges in South Africa and they are public institutions that are run by the Department of Higher Education and Training. They offer the National Certificate Vocational and Nated courses.  There are many hundreds of private colleges in South Africa and they are registered and accredited. This provides a guarantee that their education is at least as good as that offered in public colleges. 

There is a strong incentive for private colleges in South Africa to achieve higher standards than their state-owned counterparts. Some do this be specialising in areas like, for example, cookery, advertising, fashion, hospitality, etc. Others provide better facilities and sporting opportunities than the public colleges.
