Margaret McNamara Education Grant (MMEG) is a nonprofit, public charity whose mission is to improve the lives of women and children by supporting the higher education of exceptional women from developing countries who will catalyze change.
Since 1981, MMEG has been working to empower women by supporting their education so that they can build a better world. We are very proud to present our numbers. Grantees have focused on diverse fields of study, including engineering, information technologies, health, science, education, social studies, and law.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- be a self-identifying woman, and at least 25 years old at time of application deadline;
- be a national of a country listed on the MMEG country eligibility list (except for the Trinity Washington University Program);
- be registered (not just accepted) at an accredited in-person academic institution and program when submitting their application;
- plan to be enrolled for at least one full academic semester (half-year term) after award of the MMEG grant;
- plan to graduate no later than three years after the award of the MMEG grant;
- not be related to a World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund, or Inter-American Development Bank staff member, spouse, retiree, or MMEG Board member.
- already be enrolled full-time or part-time (minimum of 2 courses per semester or term) at one of the universities on this list.
- be enrolled for at least one academic semester (half year) following the award of the MMEG grant in December (the term between January and July 2025);
- plan to graduate no later than three years following the award of the MMEG grant;
- hold a study permit for South Africa if applying from an eligible country other than South Africa.
Post-Matric Options

These options range from pursuing higher education at universities or colleges, finding student accommodation, entering vocational training programs (like Learnerships and internships), joining the workforce, or even starting your own business. There are so many choices but we are here to help.
