Sasol’s Mainstream Bursary programme can provide great opportunities for prospective students who are looking to further their studies. Here’s everything you need to know about their bursary programme as well as their current application deadlines.

The Sasol Bursary programme comprises of a comprehensive package that includes both financial as well as developmental support throughout the study period. Bursaries are awarded for full-time university studies in engineering and science. 

Upon successful completion of the study period, students may be employed within the Sasol Group through our Graduate Development Programmes.  

Note must be taken that Sasol Mainstream bursaries have a workback and/or payback obligation.  Please note that this bursary programme does not accept Technical Maths/Math’s literacy.

University Undergraduate Studies:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Chemistry (Studies to Hons. level will be required)
  • Civil Engineering
  • Data Science – Computer Science
  • Data Science – Mathematics
  • Data Science – Operations Research
  • Data Science – Statistics
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Geology  (Studies to Hons. level will be required)
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgy (Studies to Hons. level will be required)
  • Mining Engineering

University of Technology Studies 

  • Mine Surveying

Postgraduate University Studies 

For postgraduate research in the following core disciplines (Which support Sasol Africa's energy and circular economy transition): 

  • Chemical Engineering – Fluid Dynamics 
  • Chemical Engineering – Mathematical and Statistical Modelling 
  • Chemical Engineering – Process Modelling 
  • Chemical Engineering – Reactor Technology 
  • Chemical Engineering – Separation Technology 
  • Chemical Engineering – Thermodynamics 
  • Chemistry – Advance analytical Chemistry in the areas of Vibrational Spectroscopy or Gas Chromatography 
  • Chemistry – Catalysis or Polymer Science 
  • Chemistry – Environmental Science in the areas of Water, Waste or Air, or in Air with focus on dispersion modelling
  • Cyber Security 
  • Data Science – Applied Mathematics 
  • Data Science – Statistics  

Depending on your level of study, this is what the bursary covers 

The undergraduate University bursary covers registration fees, full tuition fees, exam fees, accommodation in residence or an equivalent amount for private accommodation, meals and an allowance for book and pocket money. 

The Sasol University of Technology Bursary covers registration fees, full tuition fees, exam fees, accommodation in residence or an equivalent amount for private accommodation, meals and an allowance for book and pocket money. Students will also be able to complete their practical training (P1, P2) at Sasol if applicable.

The Sasol Postgraduate University Bursary covers full academic costs and a monthly stipend for the full duration of your studies. 

It also covers registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation and other study-related expenses. Candidates will also have access to technical support mentors for support during and after graduation.

How To Apply For The Sasol Bursary

  1. Register on the Sasol Bursaries platform by filling all the required information. 
  2. You will receive an email to activate your account click on "Activate Account". 
  3. You will then be directed to a screen to verify your email address and to create a password. 
  4. After verifying your email and creating a password, you will be directed to the Login page. Fill in your email and password to log in. 
  5. Click on "South African Bursary Application" in the top left corner. 
  6. Click on the bursary you wish to apply for (Undergraduate or Postgraduate). 
  7. Fill in all the required information - do not leave any fields blank. 
  8. You will receive an email response on your application - once you receive the email, you may close the application.
