If you have ambitions of continuing your studies or would like to take the first step but have no financial means, then you might consider submitting an application for an FNB student loan.

The FNB Student Loan covers a student's basics such as tuition fees, accommodation, equipment, other study material and devices to help them study towards their chosen qualification.

If you’d like to apply for the loan, you may submit an application by adding the FNB Banking App, completing the call me back form - with the call me back button, contact your private advisor or contact the bank’s help desk on 087 730 5596.

Alternatively, you may apply online, just by following these steps:

  1. Click on the FNB student loan application link.
  2. Enter your ID number and contact number.
  3. Click on continue.
  4. Read the FirstRand Relationship Agreement and accept.
  5. Click on continue.
  6. Enter your personal information, including your annual gross income, main sources of income, additional income, highest level of education, etc.
  7. Click on continue.
  8. Create login details.

During the year that you have applied for, you will be required to make an interest-only and fees repayment.

Documents that will be required for an FNB customer include: proof of enrolment from the educational institution / proof of registration and a student ID.

On the other hand, if you’re not an FNB customer, you will be required to submit your South African green bar-coded ID/smart ID card, latest 3 months' payslip or 3 months' bank statement (latest 6 months' bank statements and ITA34 for self-employed customers), proof of residence not older than 3 months, proof of enrolment from the educational institution / proof of registration and student ID.

A number of banks do have student loans as one of their products, however, it is also important that you take a look into their different interest rates and requirements before making that application.
