Standard Bank offers student loans to fund your full-time or part-time studies at a higher education institution. Here is how you can apply for a Standard Bank student loan.

Standard Bank is a financial institution which offers student loans at low interest rates with easy payouts. Students who are pursuing full-time or part-time studies can apply for this student loan.

Before applying, students can check if they qualify for the student loan by completing a form for an online quote.

Applicants must provide their personal details, qualification-related information and the amount needed for their studies in this form. The amount that they state can include tuition fees, accommodation and any study equipment they may need.

If the applicant has been pre-approved after submitting this form then they can proceed to complete the application process by doing the following:

  1. Gather the following documents:
    • Acceptance letter
    • Proof of registration
    • Proof of latest academic results
    • Proof of costs for tuition, accommodation and textbooks or other equipment
    • If you are in matric then you will need to submit your final National Senior Certificate results
    • Personal (FICA) documents such as:
      • ID documents (both the student and the surety)
      • Proof of residence
      • 3 months' payslips (surety)
      • 3 months' bank statements for non-Standard Bank clients (surety)
  2. If you are applying for a student loan without surety then you can complete an application online by going to the Standard Bank website and filling in the required information.
  3. If you are applying for a student loan with surety via 'Do I Qualify' on the website then you can visit your nearest Standard Bank branch within 7 days once you have managed to gather all of your documents for a consultant to help you with the final stage of your application.

Standard Bank has stated that tuition fees and accommodation fees are paid to relevant parties such as the tertiary institution and the landlord. However, the money for textbooks and equipment are directly into the surety's transactional account or into the account of the student if they are the surety.

The student loan repayment plan for each student may vary according to how they plan on completing their studies and whether or not they have a surety.
