Do You Need To Write A Trade Test?

An assessment is used to identify, gather and interpret information against the required competencies in a qualification or a part qualification in order to make a judgement about a learner's achievement.

While tests and assessments are administered throughout an apprenticeship or training programme, the trade test is the final hurdle for prospective artisans.

Who can write a trade test?

Once a learner has completed their occupational qualification they will be eligible to write a trade test.

It is important to note that the qualification must meet the standards and requirements set out by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

Is my trade listed?

According to the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA's) a trade test is undertaken by candidates who meet the requirements included in an occupational qualification for a listed trade that is administered by an accredited trade test centre. The trade certificate is then issued by the QCTO.
