Looking to be funded by NSFAS? Looking to live away from home while you study? Are you now wondering if NSFAS will pay for your student accommodation? Here's the answer.

If you're wanting to know whether NSFAS will cover your student accommodation fees, look no further.

The answer to this question is: yes.

NSFAS funding goes beyond just paying for your tuition fees. They will also fund your student accommodation, give you money for registration, transport, books and learning materials as well as a living and personal care allowance.

NSFAS does not pay for private accommodation deposits or residence deposits. NSFAS only pays for accredited accommodation.

NSFAS pays for the following types of student accommodation:

  • Institution owned off-campus residences
  • Institution owned on-campus residences
  • Institution leased private accommodation
  • Private off-campus accredited accommodation
  • Accredited private residences

NSFAS embarked on assessing these applications in December and is still in the process of doing so, aiming to complete the evaluation process in February. This is so that students can know whether they've been funded or not when registration begins.

If you've submitted your NSFAS application, you can check your application status by following these steps:

Once you have followed these three easy steps, you will be able to see whether you are funded or not. It may take some time for your application to be successful so please be patient.

NSFAS provides fully subsidised free higher education and training for poor and working class South Africans. NSFAS will cover your tuition fees, accommodation fees as well as give you transport, living and book allowances to make sure that your higher education is covered far beyond what you expect.
