Buffalo City metro is calling all prospective students and current students to apply for the 2013 Mayoral Bursary Fund.
According to a municipal report, the metro is offering financial assistance to students in the form of study bursaries for the 2013 academic year. "This is an annual executive mayoral driven initiative which is done as part of the City's development of human capital."
The bursaries are for students in the following fields of study: engineering, finance, information technology, agriculture and economics. "The bursary is intended to assist current and prospective students and shall be used towards covering tuition, registration fees, prescribed textbooks, study material and accommodation."
Applicants must be South African citizens who live permanently in Buffalo City, have proof of residence when applying, provide proof of income of their family household, and be willing to work in the city after completing their studies.
Selection is strictly based on academic merit and successful candidates will only be able to renew their bursaries annually based on their academic performance in the previous year. "The bursary fund has a clear bias towards underprivileged individuals and is targeting young people from the ages of 14 to 35 years," says the City.
It is committed to advancing employment equity, including of persons with disabilities, and encourages students with disabilities to apply. Applicants should include certified copies of their recent academic records, South African identity documents, and proof of residency or a letter from their ward councillor.
Application forms are available at all Buffalo City Youth Advisory centres, including at the Mdantsane Library Complex, King William' s Town Civic Centre, Duncan Village Business Support Centre and East London Trust Centre Building, from room 708 on the seventh floor.
Completed application forms can be delivered to the City's human resources department, Buxton House, Buxton Street, in the East London CBD, or posted to PO Box 134, East London, 5200. The closing date for applications is Friday, 28 September and shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 15 October for personal interviews.
