As the new school year approaches, the Limpopo Department of Education (LDoE) is gearing up to facilitate its 2025 admissions application process for learners. The LDoE is committed to ensuring all learners are placed at a school in the province.
We can only achieve this goal if parents and guardians have enrolled their children on time. Learner admissions for the 2025 academic year will commence on 27 May 2024.

Parents and guardians need to register learners promptly, as admissions will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Parents and guardians are requested to register learners on time, as the process will be guided by the criterion set which is based on a first come first serve basis. Preference in admissions will be given to children residing nearer to the school.
The LDoE indicated that preference will be given to children residing closer to the school, although admission for learners residing farther away will be considered based on available space.
Admission of learners not nearer will be considered depending on the availability of space.
According to the South African Schools Act (SASA) to apply for a Grade R placement, the child turning 5 years old on or before 30 June 2025 to be eligible. Grade 1 Children turning 6 years old on or before 30 June 2025 are eligible for placement.
How To Apply
The LDoE said parents can collect registration forms from schools for Grades R, 1, and 8 admission applications. They have until 31 July 2024 to collect and submit admission applications.
For internal grades, parents can collect registration forms between 9 September 2024 and 13 September 2024. Parentscan submit these forms between 16 and 20 September 2024
Required Documents
To ensure a smooth registration process, parents are encouraged to ensure they have the following documents readably available.
- Birth certificate or acceptable proof of birth date
- Immunisation card
- Transfer card (if applicable)
- Last report card
For non-South African citizens, additional documents are required including a study/work permit, temporary or permanent residence permit from the South African Department of Home Affairs as well as evidence of application for permission to stay in South Africa
The LDoE said they closely monitor the admissions process to ensure fairness and that learners' rights are protected.
