An internship is a working opportunity that is offered to graduates to gain some entry-level work experience in the field they wish to join.

Most internships require higher education qualifications in the field of the company, but in some cases they don't.

So yes, you can go straight into an internship after you complete high school.

It would actually come as an advantage to do an internship straight after high school as it gives you a chance to explore the industry. You might find yourself not enjoying the industry you originally chose, giving yourself a chance to explore more options.

Doing an internship after high school looks good on your CV and University/College applications, having real work experience boosts your chances of future employment.

Interning allows people to network and build business relationships, teaching you the ins and outs of the business community.

Study After Matric

If you intend to study after matric but you are unsure of what you would like to go into, an internship is a good way to decide. You will receive a variety of different tasks in the different faculties of the business, becoming familiar with all your options.

This means that when you make a long-term academic commitment you know for sure that it will be something that you enjoy, creating a more positive future work space.

Internships generally last between 3 to 12 months, so a shorter internship before deciding what to study will be a huge advantage for you.

Most internships offer a small stipend to their interns but you do, unfortunately, get companies that don't. These companies, however, provide rewards through work experience and other benefits.

Internships, in some cases, can lead to permanent employment for the intern, giving them a great opportunity to build themselves up and create a network in the industry sector.

It's a perfect opportunity to learn new skills from well accomplished people in the company and build relationships with other interns.

So if you are looking to dive straight into an internship after high school, go for it. Its an opportunity to grow and explore in the working world, before deciding on any long-term commitments.
