The Amy Biehl Foundation (ABF) is a non-profit organisation based in Cape Town that reaches out to thousands of children in the townships through After School programs. The Foundation will be hosting the fifth Annual Youth Spirit Award event on 23 August in association with Cape Community Newspapers, celebrating and honouring the young people of the Western Cape.
Nominations for this annual award will be based on evidence of the nominee's initiative and dedication in service to others. The Award goes to young people who are already making a difference. The Foundation hopes to challenge them to greater heights of service through the recognition of the Award and the exposure to Amy Biehl's life and work.
A Selection Committee will choose the finalists and winners from the nominations. At the event, the winner and two runners up will receive prizes/
Cape Community Newspapers, who will also be presenting an additional award, is looking for someone that "stands out, whose work inspires us, and captures a true community spirit...someone whose commitment to helping others fulfills them," says Cape Community Newspaper editor Chantel Erfort.
The winner of this award will receive a floating trophy and a R5 000 bursary towards tuition at an institution of their choice.
Selection criteria:
To be considered a nominee must:
- Be an individual; groups are not eligible;
- Be between the ages of 14 and 19; and
- Be involved in community service or outreach in the past 12 months.
