The salaries of South Africa’s soldiers will be adjusted to recognise years of service in an effort to improve their low salaries and boost morale in the military, Defence and Military Veterans Minister Lindiwe Sisulu announced.

Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) has taken four Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) students at Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) on an unexpected career path. They joined the South African Navy January 2012 and basic training took 3 months at the largest Navy training unit, SAS Saldanha Bay Lagoon.

A total of 4463 new South African National Defence Force (SANDF) recruits will begin their training this month.
Many of the recruits have started to report at various SANDF Military Bases, while over 1000 of them are expected to assemble at the Johannesburg Park Station for final instructions before being ferried to various military bases.
The new recruits will undergo various training aimed to providing specialists to the SANDF such as engineers, pilots, doctors, dentists and naval combat officers.
